What inspired you to start Project Expat?

Working with expat clients in the insurance business, I learnt a great deal about everyday issues and problems that come up for people living in a foreign country. Germany is an incredibly versatile and highly developed place to reside, however, it can be hard for new inhabitants to settle in without help and guidance. Therefore, I am so passionate about bringing people together – my childhood in the UK, Germany and Spain meant that I grew up feeling part of a truly European identity. We should all strive to make sure the world comes closer and understand one another better. I have experienced first-hand just how much richer life could be when cultures were intertwined. My attitude towards embracing all that was around me, taught me that diversity should be celebrated rather than feared; comprehending each other better would bring us closer together as global citizens.

Project Expat and MW

Markus and I had known each other for thirteen years since we first met at uniVersa, a company that offered insurance services. I had just come back from living in Spain for nine years, so he was my boss as I learned the ropes of the industry. The business really took off one day when we received an inquiry from a Swedish-American client who wanted health insurance but didn’t know any German. This sparked something inside us; it put ideas into our heads that this could be more than just a simple job offer but also an amazing opportunity to create something new and exciting.

So, with much enthusiasm, Markus and I left uniVersa shortly afterwards to form Blacktower Expat Solution Services GmbH with another partner from Holland who eventually left the company – which is when MW Expat was founded! At first, the insurance company was just like any other – selling policies to clients and making sure their needs were met. But something about the business didn’t feel right. The company noticed that many of their customers were expats who had recently moved to Germany from abroad and they seemed lost in the system with nowhere to turn for help.

We needed to do something more than just sell policies; they wanted to help these vulnerable people find a place of safety, security, and support within their new environment. And so, Project Expat was born. Since its launch, Project Expat has grown stronger each day as both customers and vendors have come together under one roof for mutual benefit – creating a sense of community among those who may otherwise feel isolated or alone in what is often a difficult transition period when it comes to relocating countries permanently.

Making your new country feel like home.

Our Commitment to Sustainability

At Project Expat, we know that sustainable practices are important not only for the environment, but also for the future of our business and our community. That’s why we’re excited to partner with Grow My Tree, a company dedicated to reforestation via tree planting. If we are unable to assist you within 48 hours of your contacting us, we will plant a tree on your behalf as an apology and part of our commitment to reducing our carbon footprint. We see this partnership as just one small step towards creating a more sustainable world for all of us to enjoy. Our commitment to both our clients and the planet is what sets us apart as a company. Thank you for choosing Project Expat and helping us achieve our goals of environmental responsibility. Together, we can make a difference.
